Overview

Upon selecting 'Play Game', you enter a vast underwater cave system. Visibility is extremely limited save for a narrow beam of torchlight. Your objective is to collect various small items hidden in the cave and escape with your life.  However, the more you take, the more dangerous it becomes. As you delve deeper, and pick up rarer treasures, the environment becomes more hostile.

Buttons

  • Run Program - starts the application (plays main menu music track that is slightly different each time)
  • Play Game - player enters the underwater cave (fades out the main menu music and plays the underwater music track)
  • Reset Program - refreshes the demo
  • Creature Attack (1 of 3) - small fish attacks the player if they venture too close
  • Player Hit (1 of 3) - player is damaged either by the environment or a hostile creature
  • Depth Scream High (1 of 3)  - a creature can be heard somewhere in the darkness
  • Depth Scream Low (1 of 3)  - a creature can be heard somewhere in the darkness
  • Bell Timer 1 - hostility in the cave increases and the environment becomes more dangerous (adds a choral music layer)
  • Bell Timer 2 - hostility in the cave increases yet again and the environment is very dangerous (adds a high strings music layer)
  • Bell Timer 3 - hostility in the cave is at its maximum and the environment is extremely dangerous (adds a staccato strings layer)
  • Player Wins - player completes the level
  • Player Dies - player is killed and loses

Background

This demo was made for the Bigmode Game Jam in 2023. Me and my team worked hard on a submission but didn't end up submitting the project. This adaptive system was my main contribution and I'm excited to be able to present it to you here.

Software

All audio assets were made in Ableton Live and the rest was done with Godot Game Engine and Godot Script.
